PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST (NC)

I included Pisgah National Forest because many of our tours will travel through its boundaries. Pisgah is one of four national forests located in the State of North Carolina. It was established in 1916, making it one of the first national forests in the eastern United States. Nearly 80,000 acres of the forest was purchased from Edith Vanderbilt at a cost of $5.00 per acre for this purpose. Within its borders lies much of North Carolina's part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. Also, there are numerous waterfalls, such as Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock (which is a natural rock 60 foot waterslide), the Cradle of Forestry, Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, Mt. Pisgah and Mt. Mitchell and much, much more.
