MOUNT PISGAH
Mount Pisgah, located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, has an elevation of 5,721 feet. Long before European settlers came to this area, this was the exclusive domain of the Cherokee Indians. The mountain was known to the Cherokee as Elseetoss. Rev. George Newton, a Presbyterian minister, is credited with naming Mount Pisgah around 1800. He felt there was a similarity between this mountain with its view in all directions of a land rich in game and lush with trees and plant life, and the one Moses stood on (the name Pisgah comes from the Bible, Deuteronomy 3:27 where the Lord spoke of the promised land).
One of my top 10 favorite places on/near the Parkway.
