CHEROKEE LAKE, TN
Cherokee Lake is one of the oldest of the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) reservoirs. Its dam was completed on December 5, 1941, and it is 175 feet high and 6,760 feet long. With a full water level, the lake covers over 30,300 acres, is 59 miles long and has 463 miles of shoreline. It's estimated that 2.5 million visitors per year visit Cherokee Lake. The TVA provides a variety of recreational faculties at the dam, including a swimming beach area, beautiful picnic area, a year-round boat launch ramp, and a seasonal campground. Cherokee Lake is great for boating of all types, waterskiing, jet skiing, and fishing. It is known for its striped bass fishing. In addition, the lake has black bass, crappie, walleye, sauger, sunfish, white bass, catfish, and both large and small-mouth bass. Cherokee Lake has the highest score for large mouth bass of all the TVA lakes.
